POSITION VACANT - "WINGHAM GOLF CLUB – SECRETARY / MANAGER"

 

Wingham Golf Club is a picturesque 9 hole course located in Wingham NSW, 3 hours north of Sydney and 15 minutes from Taree on the mid-north coast of NSW.  The Club is renowned for its friendly and relaxed atmosphere, and with its strong local connections it is an important part of the social fabric of the town.  The Club’s vision is to provide members and visitors with a highly enjoyable golf and social experience.

 

The Club is seeking to appoint a new Secretary/Manager to work closely with the President, the Board of Directors and other stakeholders to manage all aspects of the Club’s operations. The club includes full bar facilities, 14 gaming machines, Keno, and “Caddies Restaurant”. The Wingham Golf Club Motel (a separate entity) is located next door and has a strong business association with the Club.  There are approximately 700 members of whom approximately 300 are playing members.  There is a strong base of volunteers supporting the Club’s operation.  

 

The Board is seeking an outgoing, proactive individual who is enthusiastic about the hospitality industry and who can work collaboratively with the local community and diverse stakeholders. Importantly, this is a very much a hands-on position where you will run the day to day operations of the club and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and Club policies. Your input and management will be pivotal in growing the membership base and financial security of the Club. Skills and attributes

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

 

Essential Criteria

 

  • Prior hospitality or club experience in a management or supervisory role.

  • The willingness to adopt a hands on approach.

  • Excellent communications, customer service and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated expertise in keys areas of financial management - payroll, cash reconciliation, cost control and administration. (working knowledge of MYOB will be crucial).

  • The ability to work flexible hours including days, nights and weekends.

  • Current RSA & RCG certificates as well as prerequisite training and certification as is common industry practice.

  • High quality presentation and grooming.

 

Desirable Criteria

 

  • Good knowledge/experience of club operations (compliance, governance, gaming) particularly in a small establishment or venue.

  • The ability to lead, train and motivate a small team.

  • The ability to market and promote the Club.

 

Job Description

 

The successful applicant will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Assume the responsibilities of the Licensee.

  • Ensure venue compliance.

  • Manage day to day Club operations and report to the Board.

  • Implement Club policy and direction as provided by the Board.

  • Attend all scheduled monthly Board meetings, as well as attending other key meetings as directed by the Board from time to time.

  • Discharge responsibilities concerning staff; training, management, rostering and hiring.

  • Manage contractors.

  • Oversight the operations of the Club’s restaurant (Caddies).

  • Work collaboratively with the management of the Wingham Golf Club Motel.

  • Coordinate maintenance and servicing of the Club's assets.

  • Order and manage stock levels and pricing.

  • Managing and coordinating Club functions and promotional activities.

  • Liaise with associate organisations and sponsors.

  • Reconcile monies across all areas of the Club’s operation oversee and prepare accounts.

  • Prepare and present financial reports to the Board.

  • Development strategies and marketing plans to maintain the Club's viability.

  • Undertake general bar work as required.

 

Remuneration

 

Salary, allowances and other benefits be negotiated based on the current Registered and Licensed Club Award. As a Secretary/Manager role it is envisaged that this position will be undertaken at the “Level ‘D’ Manager” under this Award.
